My favorite depiction of Shanghai growing big has to be Touhou Seichou.
It's an interesting observation. Why wouldn't Shanghai supernaturally become something more eventually? Hell, I'm open to the compromise with how Millet Soup does it where she seems sort-of independent. Shanghai is (presumably) Alice's main doll. Surely, she's at least a bit more advanced than the other dolls?
And of course, the subsequent shipping with Marisa is, I must say – a very radical choice. 🗿
