I think Lunaluna is referencing some manga that asserted in its story that ninjas were originally Korean? So this would be a similarly boldly revisionistic claim with Buddhism originating from Taoism.
Though I'd like to add that there's a lot of Taoist influence in Chinese Buddhism, which Byakuren's Shingon Buddhism derived from.
