Okay, so when you wear a kimono 👘 you're supposed to wrap your left side over your right. This puts the right side in front of the left side as viewed by other people, hence the name 右前 (Migimae). Doing the opposite here – 左前 (Hidarimae), where you can see the left side is over the right – is taboo since it's reserved for the dead.
